I spent my last dollar on coffee,
And now I’ve got no place to go
All my friends are back at work now
And the open preschool’s full

So I cross the 4-lane highway
And wait out the traffic light
This city was built for cars now
And tenderness is out of sight

It’s just me and my daughter in this cold town
Trudging through the January snow
We’ve got nothing but each other to rely on, oh no
So daddy I love you, is all I wanna know

So I hit the streets tomorrow
Like I hit them yesterday
With my child in tow, my pride and joy
The only warmth I’ll find today

It’s just me and my daughter in this cold town…

A little warmth, a friendly smile
Is what we seek, is what we need
We’re not looking for a meal
Just a simple sign that someone cares, a passing conversation
Not much to ask for really
It’s just so hard to find the time

So I hit the streets tomorrow
Like I hit them yesterday
With my child in tow, my pride and joy
The only warmth I’ll find today

It’s just me and my daughter in this cold town
Trudging through the February snow
We’ve got nothing but each other to rely on, oh no
So daddy I love you, is all I wanna know
